“What’s the best way to get through a minefield?”

Think about it before you answer. You might say, “Carefully!” and that would be a wise choice, but carefully isn’t enough. The answer is simple….you follow in the footsteps of someone who successfully got through the minefield.

This is one way in which mentors are an integral part of navigating the minefield of life, and why it is so valuable to have someone…a pioneer that has gone before you…to help you plot a course into territory you’ve never entered. Mentors are the seeing eye dogs, the Cliffs Notes, the answers to many tests and life mysteries…a crystal ball, if you will. I don’t mean to say they are omniscient, but they do, in many respects, have the experience to help you avoid pitfalls to get you to a successful place a lot faster than if you were going it alone.

The right mentor knows how to help you through professional and emotional minefields by providing you with tools to help in your own personal development. They don’t do the work for you, and it isn’t always easy, but if you are willing to be a good student they are the Yoda’s you need to use the force and harness the power and potential within you.

Mentors are leaders. Sometimes they are mothers or fathers, or coaches and teachers, and sometimes they are grandparents or business associates, neighbors, workout partners or acquaintances who become close friends. While we follow in our mentors’ footsteps, the goal of a true mentor is to help mold more leaders.

In my industry there are many mentors. My mentors have been willing to take risks as trailblazers. They’ve done exactly what I am doing, forging the path and laying the foundation through trial and error so that I don’t have so many hurdles to clear or ceilings to bust through. My mentors have perfected a system of doing things so that I don’t have to create one out of thin air, and they want to see me succeed. They want to see me in a leadership position!

The culture of entrepreneurship is empowering and encouraging. Leaders want to see you surpassing them on the ladder…matter of fact, there is no ladder. There are just many like-minded people, locking arms, going in the same inspired direction…succeeding and celebrating each other’s successes. You don’t find that in Corporate America where bosses are on the throne and you answer to their demands.

Owning a Home-Based Business would have been an intimidating endeavor without the positive and encouraging servant leaders I have in my life. Without the proper growth mindset they instilled in me, with personal development tools and a simple process to follow,…doing exactly what they do…I wouldn’t be in a position to achieve success and help others do the same.

Because I have inspirational mentors who know how I feel, know where I am in my journey and how to move to the next phase or overcome objections and cheer me on when I hit milestones, (while also persevering and staying on-target to hit the next goal on the checklist), I’ve gotten past taking things personally. I know this is a journey with lots of ‘destinations’, like hitting goals, earning an income, perpetuating a residual income that pays me while I sleep, earning bonuses, and going on luxurious incentive trips, just to name a few. I’ve chosen this “less traveled by” path that is definitely more rewarding than the draining, soul-sucking 9-to-5 grind.

One of my mentors says, “Go talk to 100 people and get 100 No’s. Go home. Strip naked in front of the mirror and turn around. There will be no blood!”

This seasoned industry professional and global leader has instilled in me the valuable lesson that the No’s just don’t matter. They don’t. It’s the Yes’s that count…beginning with the YES you tell yourself. Yes, you can! Yes, this works! Yes, I can help other people follow the same system I’m following. Yes! Yes! Yes!

When you look in the mirror you are looking at your biggest critic and your biggest competition. You are looking at the one person who can Yes or No you right into or out of happiness, freedom, belief, opportunities, etc. etc.

Because I have a wise, active mentor to show me the ropes of this Home-Based Business in the relationship marketing industry, I am in business for myself, but not by myself, and I have the successful map of steps my mentors have taken, so my journey through the minefield is more like a cakewalk. I’m able to mirror my successful mentor’s system…and there is definitely no blood, but there is lots of reward and lots of Yes’s!

I like sharing the keys to my success, sharing what my mentors have taught me and helping to create other leaders who will do the same. If you are looking for an inspired way to live, work and play…a more fulfilling way of earning an income and truly enjoying the life balance of making a living while making life grand…reach out to me.

There is a better way, and you can follow my footsteps right out of the minefield of Corporate America.
