This time of the year brings a wave of germs dominoing their way around schools and offices. It’s just a matter of time before someone in your family is touched by the ick and then it’s all downhill from there. If you have children in school it exponentially increases your chances of contracting the funk.

Sound strange to mention something like this in an article for home-based businesses? Not really.

See, when I awoke this morning with the feeling that I’d been hit by a truck, and the realization that I’d be one of the statistics of this evil flu, I was immediately reminded that I’m not at the mercy of a boss. I don’t have to “call in sick” or go into the office…risking my health and that of my co-workers…for fear of losing a job or being reprimanded, because my sick-day count was exceeded.

Finding the silver lining is important…even while feeling like the walking dead.

After cursing under my breath, I was able to show some gratitude for staying in the bed and giving my miraculous body ALL THE TIME IT NEEDS to heal. I mean, sick days are helpful, but when you think about it, they’re also kind of a joke.

Employee to Boss: “I’m not feeling well. I have a 102 degree temperature, and I’m not sure if my legs work because everything hurts.”

Boss to Employee: “Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. It appears you have two sick days left, so you’ll need to be well by Friday. See you then!”

See what I mean! If I had the power to see into the future and make that prediction with 100% certainty I’d be talking about something completely different altogether.

I don’t have to ask permission to take care of myself or my child or a family member, because I have a home-based business. And thanks to the You Economy, even when I’m down for the count, unable to work because I’m sleeping to break a fever and recuperate, I’m still making money to support my family, and I CAN PREDICT that I’ll continue to keep my home-based business thriving in spite of any illness.

If any of this resonates with you or someone you know…looking for a better way to honor the gift of this life by living fully and not feeling like a slave to outside forces you cannot control…please reach out to learn more. It’s so much easier and more rewarding than sitting in that cubicle wishing you were home under the covers making a FULL recovery.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with my pillow.
